Chiropractic
When vertebrae, the bones of the spine, are misaligned, nerves can become
irritated and muscles torn. Back and neck pain also result when these bones
lock at the joints. Pain and numbness elsewhere in the body are often caused
by bulging or ruptured discs, the cushions between the vertebrae.
Your spinal cord is your nervous system’s main pathway from your brain
to the rest of your body. Discomfort in other areas, such as pain in your
toes, headache, even colitis, often can be traced to pinched, irritated
or stretched nerves in your spine. Injury to muscles that support your spine
or ligaments connecting vertebrae affect normal movement.
Dr. Stump will identify the root cause of your pain and provide the natural
solution. Aided by state-of-the-art equipment, including the IST table and
Zenith Hi-Lo table, she provides her patients more comfortable access to
treatment.
Often a simple chiropractic manipulation will take care of the problem.
In other cases, a sequence of therapies are recommended to relieve symptoms,
eliminate stress and enhance the recovery process. |
Acupuncture
This ancient technique for relieving pain originated in China. It deals
with the flow of nourishing energy within our bodies. When the flow of
bodily energy is out of balance, acupuncture readjusts and restores harmonious
distribution to all parts of the body.
By inserting very thin disposable needles into specific bodily locations
called acupoints, proper balanced is achieved practically painless and
often achieves immediate relief.
Acupuncture has proved successful in treating many acute and chronic conditions,
including headaches, arthritis, allergies, and gynecological problems.
It also has helped many people manage pain, control weight and quit smoking. |
Yoga
Yoga is an ancient mind, body and soul practice which originated 5,000
years ago. Its premise is on the yin and yang philosophy. It is a
highly effective practice which leads to health, perfect concentration,
intuitive awareness and spiritual harmony. The objectives are to become
aware of our bodies as well as our mind... realizing that each of
us represents a small universe and to be able to utilize the breathing
technique to maintain a balance within. To improve our flexibility
and strengthen the skeletal, muscular and nervous system. We now feature Hatha and Prenatal Yoga. |
Massage Therapy
Massage, the old fashioned standby to soothe the aches and relax the mind,
is actually a proven therapeutic technique – with space-age apparatus
or skillful hands. Muscles relax under gentle kneading and stroking, while
friction stimulates soft tissues. Blood and lymph circulation improve,
scar tissue between muscles breaks up, and swelling or fluid accumulation
at the site of an injury is reduced. Massage is highly effective alleviating
uncontrolled muscle tightness or spasms and relaxing hyperactive muscles.
The Delmarva health Centre provides several types of massage therapy including
deep tissue massage and reflexology. |
Superficial Heat
Applying heat to the skin surface temporarily relieves spasms, muscle
tightness and symptoms associated with chronic pain. The Delmarva Health
Centre uses warm moist heat, called hot pack therapy. As the heat raises
the temperature of soft tissue beneath the skin, it also enlarges the
blood vessels and increases circulation.
Superficial heart is an easy, effective way to increase circulation, flexibility,
range-of-motion and help speed the healing process.
